The Mylene Sheath is an independent record label, founded by Joel Proper and Lindsay Palmer. The label originated in 2007 in Covington, Kentucky and recently relocated to Athens, Georgia. They have a strong focus on vinyl and overall quality in the packaging of their releases.[1]
The first release The Mylene Sheath put out was the If These Trees Could Talk debut record.
Some of the bands signed to the label include Caspian, Gifts From Enola, Beneath Oblivion, and Giants.[2]

The label recently signed the post-rock super-group Lavina, which contains current and former members of prominent post-rock bands such as Caspian, On Fire and The Burning Paris. The debut EP from Lavina, titled 'There is Light Between Us' was released on November 2010 on CD, 12" Vinyl and digital download.[3]
Recent releases from the label include the latest Eksi Ekso album and an album of remixes of Actors&Actresses songs titled 'A.R.C. Arrows Remix Compilation, which featured remixes by the likes of Arms and Sleepers and members of labelmates Beware of Safety and Caspian.[4]
Beneath Oblivion's second album 'From Man to Dust' was released on September 27th 2011. Early reviews have been positive with noisecreep.com commenting on the 'forward thinking metal madness' of the album.[5] It was released on limited edition colored 2xLP, CD and Digitally.[6]
The Latest band to be signed by the label are Portland, OR's Chasma. Their debut album 'Declarations of the Grand Artificer' will be released on December 6th 2011.[7] Early reviews of the album have been positive with one critic hailing it as 'Easily one of the best black metal albums I've heard all year.'[8]
Future releases scheduled for the label include split albums featuring bands such as Gifts From Enola/Caraveles as well as split album between Junius and Rosetta which will for the first time include a 'record store only' version, which will be in a limited color and is due for release in November.[9]
The website eMusic, known for its promotion of independent record labels, recently featured the Mylene Sheath in its label profile section.[10]
In the october 2011 newsletter the Mylene Sheath announced their intention to form a Street Team of dedicated 'Sheathers' to help promote the label and its artists, with incentives for members including access to pre-orders before anyone else and guest list spot for shows any Mylene Sheath band plays in their town that they helped promote.[11]
